The FINAL Weigh-in

April 2nd, 2008

Contestants in Big Bear’s Biggest Loser Drop 700+ Pounds; the Lischkes Take Top Male, Female Honors
After 12 weeks of workouts, physical challenges and lifestyle changes, the 35 or so contestants in the Big Bear’s Biggest Loser fitness program had their final weigh-in last night and, all told, over 704 pounds were lost. Coach Ted Devito told the Red and Blue Teams, “It’s about four people—that’s positively amazing!” The winningest of the Big Bear’s Biggest Losers were the husband-and-wife team of Bob and Maria Lischke, whose combined weight loss was just a smidge under 90 pounds. Bob dropped 19½% of his January body weight, while Maria, his wife of nearly 30 years, lost over 15%–their top figures earned them each a local gym membership, donated by Total Fitness and Curves. Contestant and Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District employee Lorie Judd, whose “little dream” brought the fitness program to fruition, told her fellow Losers during their healthy potluck, “I want to thank you all for making this come true! Look what we did!” Rec and Park does plan another round of Big Bear’s Biggest Loser, kicking off in May, and this time will include twice-a-week workouts, outside at Swim Beach. As Judd tells KBHR, “We’re hoping to help 40 more people learn to be healthy.” For more information, you can call Rec and Park at 866-9700.

Week 10 Results and homework

March 19th, 2008

Red team 20.2 lbs with 10 people weighing in

Blue team 19.4 lbs with 11 people weighing in

Total = 39.6 lbs with a running total of 678.5 lbs :)

This week will discussed motivation and goal setting. One great way to keep motivated and more importantly moving is to have something in the future months that you would like to accomplish physically. It may be a 5K charity walk, being able to run for 30 minutes, climb a peak, or finish a race. Whatever it is, we beleive it is one of the best ways to get fit and to stay motivated, especially if you sign up for something with a friend who you don’t want to let down. Along with participating in the MS WALK on April 19th, we have also put together a community fitness activity that might be a great goal to set for yourself to accomplish over the next several months. Check out the SEVEN SUMMITS at http://www.bigbearoutdooractivites.com/.

Your homework this week is to find a few different events that you COULD participate in over the next year to stay fit and motivated. Check out the links at http://www.bigbearoutdooractivites.com/ to find events in the area and bring in a list of a few of these events that you think would be fun and a something you could participate in!

FEBRUARY RESULTS ARE IN!!! The losers have lost…

March 4th, 2008

577.3 pounds in 8 weeks of competition!

It was an exciting end to the month of February for the biggest loser competitors. The teams have been going back in forth in winning the weekly weight loss percentages.

Last Wednesday the team’s battled it out in their 2nd physical challenge competition, and in the end the BLUE team was able to pull off the big win. They were awarded with CINCH inch loss products courtesy of The Wellness Center at Big Bear Lake  Medical Group and Power My Health.

The biggest loser male award went to the red team’s Bob for the 2nd month in a row with a percentage of weight loss at 5.69% in February. Joining him in the biggest loser circle was his wife Maria whose percentage was 5.15% for February. They were both awarded the prize of a 2 hour pontoon boat rental courtesy of Big Bear Marina. Since the couple BOTH won the prize they so kindly offered to give one of their gift certificates to the next female with the largest percentage of weight loss, who was Tara from the Blue team with 4.15% of weight loss.

The Red team was able to win the overall largest percentage of weight loss in February with 2.79% and 95 lbs. For their efforts team members will receive chair massages at the next meeting and workout courtesy of professional massage therapist Rita McMillan.

The teams have 4 weeks left of competition until their final weigh-in on March 31st.

Will the Red team hold onto to their weight loss lead or will the Blue team step up to the challenge? Stay tuned for the weekly reports!

1/2 Way There!

February 20th, 2008

Nice Job, Losers!

We are past the halfway point and going strong with 492 pounds of weight lost by the participants. It has been extremely challenging lately due to sickness and weather and we want to congratulate everyone who has done their best to stay committed, even those not participating in the Biggest Loser with us!

Spring is just around the corner and your hard work will pay off as it gets easier to workout and the weather is more “uplifting”.
